Pauline Martin (Thérèse's sister) enters the Carmelite Monastery in Lisieux

Thérèse enters the Carmel in Lisieux at the age of 15.

Thérèse takes the Carmelite habit.

 

July 29, 1894
Thérèse's father, Louis Stanislaus Martin dies.

 

September 14, 1894
Celine Martin (Thérèse's sister) enters the Carmel in Lisieux.

Thérèse performs her second play on Joan of Arc


 

March 21, 1896
After Mother Marie de Gonzague is elected prioress at the Carmel in Lisieux, she entrusts Thérèse with her five novices.

 

August 30, 1897
Thérèse lies ill in the cloister at Lisieux.

Thérèse dies at the age of 25

The first pilgrims visit Thérèse's grave and her first miracles take place.

The first steps in the canonization of Thérèse.

April 29, 1923

Thérèse is beatified by Pius XI.

 

May 17, 1925
Thérèse is canonized in Rome by Pius XI. 500,000 pilgrims attend.


December 14, 1927

Pius XI makes Thérèse the Patron Saint of Universal Missions along with Saint Francis Xavier.

 

1973
The centenary of Thérèse's birthday is celebrated.

 

June 2, 1980
John Paul II goes on a pilgrimage to Lisieux, France.
